ASHER BERNSTEIN President
Mr. Bernstein is President and Principal of Bernstein Real Estate which specializes in the ownership and management of New York City commercial and residential properties. The firm was founded in 1926 and controls more than 20 commercial buildings, accounting for approximately 2 million square feet of space between the financial district and 60th Street. Bernstein Real Estate has its own in-house leasing division for owner managed as well as promotional assignments.
Mr. Bernstein also serves as President and Principal of Lawrence Properties, an 84 year-old firm specializing in the management of luxury residential properties in Manhattan. The division has expanded under Mr. Bernstein's direction and now represents more than 50 buildings, including premier addresses on Park Avenue, Fifth Avenue and Riverside Drive.
Concurrent with these activities, Mr. Bernstein serves as a Director of the Realty Advisory Board (RAB). He also serves as a Director and a member of the Executive Committee of AFA Protective Systems, a national alarm and security company.
Previously, he served as the 1980 Chairman of the Young Men's/Women's Real Estate Association; as a Deputy Trustee of the Building Services Employee Health and Pension Fund; and as a Founding Director of the Fashion District Business Improvement District (BID). He is a member of the Real Estate Board of New York and has served as a Director of the Commercial Brokerage Division and as a member of the Secondary Office Rental Conditions Committee. He also served as the President of the Board of Directors of his own Manhattan residence, a landmarked property in the West Village.
Mr. Bernstein's education includes a B.A. degree from University College, New York University and an M.B.A. in marketing from the Graduate School of Business at Columbia University where he graduated with honors. He is the recipient of the Young Real Estate Man of the Year Award for 1983 as well as the Senior Man of the Year Award for 1990.
He is an avid tennis player and golfer and also sings with the University Glee Club of New York City. His son, Alex, also an M.B.A. from Columbia Business School, joined the firm in 2001.
